Eyesight for Woodwind Quartet

Price: $40.00

The human mind processes an enormous amount of visual stimuli each and every moment, and yet from that enormous amount of data, the conscious self only notices a fraction of it. Eyesight for woodwind quartet seeks to transmit that key fraction of visual data that the brain has deemed most important from the eyes to the ears, simulating a grand ensemble sound through only four instruments.

Ignite for AATB or SATB Saxophone Quartet

Price: $40.00
Ignite was originally composed by ear for the Broomates Saxophone Quartet, an AATB performing ensemble based in Oregon around the Portland-Metro area. A crowd favorite, this work highlighted the group’s strengths in improvisation and ornamentation. Taking the approach of a jazz combo, every performance was unique with regard to solos and the form of the piece. Simple by design, there are essentially only two “sections” that repeat themselves in various fashions. In addition, each part, when not playing a melody or a solo, sticks around the same few pitches allowing for players to quickly get off the page and “in” to playing off of one another instead. Ornamentation and personalization by the performing ensemble on this piece are essential to its success.

Funk92 for SaxBand

Price: $40.00
Inspired by the head-banging tunes of New York Subway band, the Lucky Chops, Funk92 was originally composed for the 6:30am Brass Band while Lucas Blevins was leading the group. At the time, he had been surrounded by that contemporary New Orleans brass band sound and Funk92’s composition was a byproduct of that. At its namesake, 92 beats per minute, its just fast enough to get you moving with grooving 16th note syncopations but still slow enough to keep the feel laid back and funky. This version arranged for SaxBand was further inspired by Lucas’ time playing with the Washington State University Big Band I under the direction of Dr. Greg Yasinitsky who is fond of calling tunes (many of which he composed or arranged himself) that feature the saxophone section with many soli passages. The soli section in Funk92 reflects that traditional big band sax soli sound Lucas has become accustomed to playing combined with the rhythmic drive of contemporary New Orleans brass band melodies that originally inspired the composition.
